Kamakura and Hase. Surrounded by the sea and temples, this city is a special place where the tranquility of an ancient city intersects with the openness of the seaside.
Saka no Nana Yo, a rental inn with two buildings that stand close to the town, is not just an inn for staying.
It was designed as a stage to “feel” Japanese culture with the five senses.
The origin of the name is “Seven Nights in Kamakura to Stay in Tranquility.” It has a wish that guests can enjoy the passage of time. The names of the two buildings are “star” and “moon.” Each of them has a different story, but together they leave a deep lasting impression in the hearts of travelers.
The “star” wing was designed with a sense of dignity and transparency in mind. The warmth of the white walls and trees that receive the light is refreshing in the daytime, and sparkles like starlight at night. If you open the windows, the sea breeze and the sound of birds come in, and you can feel a sense of freedom away from everyday life.
On the other hand, the moon wing emphasizes soft shading. In the tranquility created by the gentle light of indirect lighting and the texture of plaster and wood, you can feel a sense of peace as if you were lit by the moon. The later the night, the calmer it becomes, relieving fatigue from travel and leading to deep sleep.
The space design is conscious of the beauty of subtraction, a Japanese aesthetic, and by eliminating unnecessary decorations, visitors can feel the history and nature as it is. In the morning, I wake up surrounded by temple bells, in the afternoon I walk around the streets of Hase, and at night I stay close to the stars and the moon. The whole experience is planned to correspond with the design of the inn.
“Saka no Nana Yo” is not just an accommodation, but a “vessel” to experience Kamakura itself. The seven nights spent here will become a story of Japan that will be quietly etched in the memory of travelers.
We hope that this will be a place where you can encounter the history of Kamakura.
