We spoke with Dr. Yamanashi, who is currently practicing dermatology in Hiratsuka, about the renewal of Mary’s Dermatology Hiratsuka Clinic.

How did you find a design company?

When I went to a shop in Kamakura, I really liked the atmosphere and theme colors of the shop, so I asked the staff, and they immediately introduced me to Mr. Couscous. Later that day,
I visited Mr. Kusukusu and talked to him for hours. (Laughter)At that time, there was no plan to renew it at all, but when the renewal plan came out in earnest a year or two later, I asked Mr. Kusukus again.

What was the reason for your decision? Please tell me if there is a decisive factor.

I actually talked to Mr. Suzuki, and even though I haven’t officially asked him for a job yet, he kindly consulted me, and I can trust him!! I was convinced that.

Why did we arrive at the renewal? Please tell me what you thought about the design of the clinic.

Originally, this clinic was run by my grandfather for more than 60 years. The interior of the clinic has been renovated gradually, but many parts have deteriorated, so when I replaced the director, I decided to make a major renovation.

At first, I planned to do internal medicine with my grandfather, but after he passed away, I changed my plan to renew the whole department as dermatology. There was also a review of the plan,
but I appreciate that you responded in an ad hoc manner.

Please tell me your honest impression after actually finishing the renewal.

From the time of the consultation, I thought that if I left it to Mr. Kusukus, there would be no mistake.
The fact that you suggested a number of conductors and plans from the time of consultation. I appreciate that you paid great attention not only to the conductor of the patient but also to the conductor of the staff.

Was there anything unexpected when you actually used it?

How to use the isolation room. Because of the characteristics of dermatology, there are patients who need to be quarantined such as infectious diseases,
but it can be used by parents whose babies are crying so that they don’t worry about it.

In addition, the efficiency of the staff has been greatly improved since they can go back and forth in the backspace and the examination.

Please tell me about how you came to specialize in dermatology and your motivation.

Since my grandfather was an internal medicine doctor, I thought about whether to go to internal medicine or not. What do you like? When I thought about it, I was relatively good with my hands, and I wanted to specialize in a department where it was easy to see the results of treatment.

Then plastic surgery or dermatology will be a candidate. When I was thinking about my career path, I was invited by a dermatology professor I respected, and that was the turning point. Originally, I was a doctor specializing in plastic surgery, so I was able to listen deeply to both departments.

If it hadn’t been for the professor’s invitation at that time, my path might have changed.
After that, I studied under the professor, and I studied the field of dermatology intensively, which is still very helpful for my medical practice.

Is there anything that the clinic is particularly focused on about the treatment and services it provides?

At our hospital, we specialize in specific diseases and procedures, but rather we examine a wide range of dermatology areas in general, but we feel that there are many patients who come to our hospital with acne problems.
At this hospital, we prescribe a special medicine according to each individual’s symptoms, so it is easy for you to feel the effects.
Anyway, if you have any problems, we aim to be a low-threshold clinic where you can talk to us about anything.

How was it working with kusukusu?

120% satisfaction!! Not only about the design, but also creating an atmosphere where you can consult about anything from really small matters is unique to kusukusu, and she really does everything in total, and the perfection is more than expected!!

Please tell me if there is any advice on health care and skin care that the director himself tries to give.

What is your view on the impact of spatial design on patient psychology?

The clinic is originally a place where people who are anxious can come, so I was hoping for a space where people can feel at ease. When I’m in the waiting room, I often wait with butterflies in my stomach, so I’d be happy if I could dispel my anxiety with gentle music and soft lighting. I also use indirect lighting a lot, and I think the main thing is that people’s faces look nice by turning the light softly throughout.

How do you hope to evolve Mary Dermatology in the future?

Rather than evolution, each patient is carefully examined. I hope we can maintain this condition in the future.
